Training and DevelopmentDuring 2008, we became accredited to deliver our own on site training and testing for Plant Operators. In 2009, we built on this commitment and opened our very first dedicated plant training facility in Earby, West Craven and have appointed another full time trainer and one part time trainer. We trained 51 employees to NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations during 2009 and more than 100 employees through the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS). We have also continued to support employees through their continuous professional development with a number of employees gaining chartered status in their profession including engineering, quantity surveying and marketing. In 2008-9, our senior management team, including directors and general managers, undertook a Leadership course with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Following very positive feedback from the course, we launched our first internal programme in August 2009, to help progress the careers of those managing areas of the business we consider critical to our future success. 30 employees are now undertaking this people development programme to NVQ Level 5. At a time when many companies are cutting back on training, we continue to see the value in investing in our people. In 2009, employees collectively spent 3,977 days in training. This is in addition to exam days and study days for 20 of our people who are working towards professional development qualifications including a BTEC National Certificate in Civil Engineering and MSc Quantity Surveying courses. |
