4. How many industrial year-out placement positions do you offer for each role? JN Bentley generally offers one placement position for each role. However, on some occasions - especially in engineering - we recruit more than one placement student. This depends on the company's needs and changes year on year.
5. What type of recruitment process does JN Bentley run? JN Bentley keeps its interview informal in style. The process consists of one interview only, with a series of questions, none of them trick ones, you'll be glad to know. The only 'formal' part of the interview will be when we ask you to talk about yourself. Here we prefer you to just speak rather than produce a fancy PowerPoint presentation.
6. When can I send in my application? As soon as you see JN Bentley's placements advertised you can send in your application. This can be emailed to careers@jnbentley.co.uk, sent in the post to head office or via the Current Vacancies section of our website.
7. What is the closing date for applications? The closing date for placement applications is usually late January each year. Please refer to the Current Vacancies section of our website for exact dates.
8. If I secure an interview, where will it be held? Nine times out of ten your interview will be where your placement is advertised to be. However, on some occasions the interview may be at a different office location - if you live nearer to one of our offices rather than where the placement is, for instance.
9. How long will it be until JN Bentley gets back to me? Your application will be acknowledged upon receipt - we will then process your application as soon as possible.
10. Can I claim back my travel expenses? JN Bentley is more than happy to reimburse any reasonable travel costs associated with attending a placement interview.
11. If I secure a placement, where will I work? You will work at the location where your placement has been advertised. Full details can be found on each placement page, located here.
12. If I secure a placement, when can I start? A choice of start dates will be sent to you with your offer letter. We are very flexible on start dates, with most students starting their placements between June and September each year.
13. What will be my working hours? JN Bentley's standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week, with general working hours between 8:30am and 5pm - with an hour for lunch. This might vary depending on the role your are doing and the responsibilities you've been given. Sometimes you might be asked to start work early or finish later depending on the demands of the job.
14. How long will my placement last? All JN Bentley placements last for a minimum of 12 months, but there may be a chance for you to extend your placement for an extra couple of months or even until your third year of university begins.
15. How much holiday will I receive? All of our employees receive 26 days holiday plus all statutory and bank holidays too. 5 days have to be used at Christmas when the whole business closes for the week. Our holiday runs from the beginning of March until the end of Febraury and as a placement student you are entitled to the same amount of holidays as permanent employees but your holiday entitlement will begin from your start date until your last day. If you choose not to use all of your holiday entitlement then we will pay for your remaining days in your last wage packet.
