In 2000, we launched an apprenticeship scheme taking between 12 and 15 school leavers each year and provided them with training and on-site experience to gain an NVQ Level 2.
This involved providing our apprentices with practical training, delivered in week-long blocks, together with on-site training and assessment to gain an NVQ qualification in General Construction Operations.
In 2010 we developed our own 100% in-house apprenticeship, linked with Craven College (who monitor the scheme).
Developing our own scheme has enabled us to not only cover the QCF qualification but also to attach additional tickets closely linked to the work we undertake on site and teach our apprentices about JN Bentley's core competencies and values at the same time.
As well as being heavily site-based, the apprenticeship scheme utilises our ConstructionSkills-accredited Training Centre at Head Office in Skipton, which was built in 2012. Together with accommodating training for our apprentices, the Training Centre is used for a variety of training courses, including the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) and company inductions.
