Occupational Health & Safety Policy Statement

 
The Company's health and safety vision is to achieve zero injuries and zero instances of work related ill health.  This is underpinned by a fundamental belief that all workplace injuries and instances of occupational ill health are preventable and that good health and safety management is good business.  We will not carry out work activities unless we can do them safely.

The Company acceps its moral and legal responsibility for the health and safety of employees and other parties who may be affected by the Company's operations.  The board of directors of JN Bentley Ltd regards the promotion of health and safety measures as a mutual objective for management and employees at all levels.  It is therefore the Company's policy to do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent personal injury, work related ill health and damage to property and to protect everyone from foreseeable work hazards, including the public insofar as they come into contact with the Company or its products.

In particular, JN Bentley will:

  • Maintain an occupational health and safety management system that complies with the requirements of OHSAS 18001 and maintain third party accreditation to this standard;
  • Provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, taking account of prevailing statutory requirements;
  • Use risk assessment and control measures to ensure that the health and safety of employees, other contractors, occupiers of premises and members of the public is not adversely affected by work operations;
  • Clarify individual roles with respect to health and safety using a set of Personal Safety Standards;
  • Outline minimum acceptable standards for key operations and processes using a set of Operational Safety Standards;
  • Encourage all persons to challenge unsafe behaviours and acknowledge safe behaviour to promote a safe working culture;
  • Encourage all persons to report incidents (injuries or near misses(, unsafe acts or conditions and assist in incident investigation with the objective of jointly developing measures to prevent recurrence;
  • Actively encourage suppliers and subcontractors to promote good health and safety practices as part of supplier approval and monitoring procedures; and
  • Co-operate with clients and other parties to reduce occupational health and safety risk.

Employees of JN Bentley are expected to co-operate in the operation of this policy by:

  • Working safely and efficiently and complying with the requirements of Personal and Operational Safety Standards;
  • Reporting incidents whether they are injuries, near misses, unsafe acts or incidences of ill health or damage;
  • Assisting in the investigation of incidents with the objective of jointly developing measures to prevent recurrence.

The Managing Director is ultimately responsible for the implementation of this Policy and for the provision of resources and access to competent occupational health and safety advice.

This Policy will be reviewed at least annually, or following any significant changes in QES or Company practices.  All changes will be endorsed by the Board of Directors.

This Policy is available at all times in the Company;s electronic document library and personal copies are issued to new employees at induction.  This Policy is also available to interested parties upon request.

This general statement of Company Policy relating to the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 is supported by health and safety organisation and arrangements outlined in the Company;s Health and Safety Manual (BSMS/01-02).
