Mechanical and Electrical EngineeringHarry Parsonage "The Durham office is very welcoming, and all of the staff are more than happy to offer advice and support when I had any difficulties or issues."
Q1. What attracted you to JN Bentley and why did you apply? The opportunity to increase practical skills as an M&E Engineer was very attractive as the course I am studying at university is very mechanical-orientated in the first year. I was interested to see how I could apply the theoretical knowledge gained in class to real work situations.
Q2. What were your day-to-day responsibilities? My responsibilities increased as I progressed through the placement. As I demonstrated more of my personal interests and aptitudes, I was trusted with larger tasks and schemes. I began by liaising with subcontractors and producing documentation, before moving to 'project lead', which required more independent work using my own initiative.
Q3. Were you provided with enough support and guidance? The Durham office is very welcoming, and all of the staff are more than happy to offer advice and support. For the duration of the placement I've been well supervised and always felt that I could ask for guidance.
Q4. What aspects of JN Bentley life and culture did you enjoy? The whole experience has been very enjoyable, and definitely an education to working life that university cannot provide. I have enjoyed the social benefits of work because JN Bentley is very keen to reward its employees for achievements in high performance, framework awards, safe working hours etc. You always feel appreciated for your efforts.
Q5. How has your experience helped you with career planning? This experience has helped me to aspire for greater career opportunities than I previously believed I would be capable of straight out of university.
Q6. Would you recommend a placement at JN Bentley? I would strongly recommend a placement with JN Bentley, it has provided me with a great insight into a future career in the engineering industry.
