Latest NewsJN Bentley secures hydro contract with RWE npower renewables02/02/2010 This particular project involves civils works to construct a new 750kW hydro plant at Selset Reservoir (which is owned by Northumbrian Water). It’s expected that, once complete, the plant will produce enough electricity for about 1,000 homes, as well as feeding supplies into the national grid. The scheme will work by connecting into the existing discharge mains from the reservoir and diverting some of the flow into the hydro plant power house, which we are building as part of the contract. To ensure the new power house is sympathetic to the picturesque surroundings, the steel portal will be clad with masonry and appropriate roofing materials to give the impression of being traditionally built. Working collaboratively with the client and NWL Operations from the early planning stages onwards, we will also be constructing the large diameter outfall pipework and structures needed downstream of the power house. Other supporting works, including a new access road and the necessary mechanical and electrical work, also form part of our contract. We hope that our growing expertise and reputation within the hydropower sector will be evident from the delivery of a successful scheme for this high profile client and will act as a spring board to securing new work in this sector. We will begin work on the 46-week construction programme in mid-March.
