A Team of Professionals

Last week, JN Bentley employee Jon Bester (pictured left and below)
passed the final stage of his Chartered Institute of
Management Accountants (CIMA) exams, achieving the
fourth highest score in the world!

This phenomenal result was achieved in what is widely regarded by the profession as the toughest of all the CIMA exam papers. 

Our Finance Director, Andrew Davies said “Around 4,500 candidates from all over the world will have taken this paper so Jon’s result is a tremendous achievement – I’ve never seen anyone get a result this high before.” 

This particular paper is tough because it requires the candidate to demonstrate that they can apply the knowledge they’ve gained throughout the entire course in the practical context of a given case study.  Because of this, it’s the paper that shows employers that their employee really knows how to apply the technical skills they’ve learned and can do so under significant time pressure.

Before Jon can claim the prestigious ‘ACMA’ letters after his name (Associate Chartered Management Accountant), he will now have to complete a record of his experience over the next 12 months.  But, with his achievements to date and ongoing support from Andrew, we’re sure he’s already well on his way.

We’re delighted that many of our employees have gained professional accreditation and chartered status in their chosen professions over the last 12 months:

Institution of Civil Engineers
Stuart McBryer and Steve Hobson are engineers based in our Bradford Office.  Both gained their Chartered Engineer status from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in late 2009 after each sitting an exam and presenting a portfolio to a panel of judges.  Their portfolios demonstrated evidence of their skills as civil engineers through their work on Mott MacDonald Bentley contracts in the water sector.

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
Paul Hearn, a quantity surveyor from our Skipton Office, gained chartered status from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) after presenting to a panel of judges detailing his work on the JN Bentley contract to construct the new Skills Centre at South Craven School.

Chartered Institute of Marketing
Kate Crawford, our Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility Officer based at the Skipton Office, gained Chartered Marketer status after passing the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing and then submitting evidence of continuous professional development over the last two years to the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

Chartered Quality Institute
John Smithson, our Quality Adviser based at Skipton, also presented a portfolio of his experience to the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) and was accepted as a Chartered Member.

Well done to everyone.  We’re confident that all our professionals will be able to maintain their accreditation in 2010 and we’re delighted to be supporting Jon, and many others currently recording their continuous professional development, to achieve accreditation from their respective professional bodies.

We hope others in the business will follow their footsteps and enjoy the sense of achievement and personal reward that comes with professional accreditation.
