JN Bentley help 1st Scriven Scout Group to victory

The junior winners of this year’s infamous Knaresborough Bed Race paraded as highly convincing construction workers, with the aid of high visibility jackets supplied by JN Bentley.

The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is an annual event made world famous by its colour, costumes and the eccentricity of its entrants, not to mention the courage and endurance of the racing teams taking part. Over recent years the race has featured on several TV programmes including Channel 5, Blue Peter and CNN!

This year’s race, which aims to raise £80,000 for charity, took place on June 12th.  The race involves a parade of decorated beds (based on a theme) around the town after which the beds are stripped down for the big race. 6 people run pushing the bed and 1 person has to cling on as a passenger.  This year 90 beds ran from far and wide, including a team from Germany and the US Navy.

The 2 mile course sees the teams careering around Knaresborough, including a tough run up the infamous Castle Ings, finishing with an icy crossing of the river Nidd.

This year’s theme for the parade was ‘occupations’ and the scouts chose ‘construction workers’.  There were 30 cubs and scouts parading all dressed up as road workers with home-made signs and JN Bentley high visibility jackets to complete their look.  The bed was turned into a long section of road with a hole in the middle of it.

The scouts won the junior race, coming in 32nd overall, in a time of 17 minutes 50 seconds.
